If you thought Jose Aldo’s performance at UFC 237 was underwhelming, you won’t hear any disagreement from the man himself.

Aldo met Alexander Volkanovski in Brazil on Saturday, where he fell short to the Australian via a judges decision. Today, the former featherweight champion took to his social media to address the loss, noting he considered it one of his career worst efforts in the Octagon.

“I’ve never fought so badly in my life,” Aldo wrote, (H/T to MMAJunkie for the translation). “No excuses at all, because that’s not me, but I know about my ability and talent and I can’t do that. Not taking away the merits from my opponent, who did his fight, but I’m sad at myself and put it all on myself, because I let it happen and didn’t do the fight that I should have. It’s over and on to the next one.”

Since losing his world title to Max Holloway in 2017, Aldo found recent success against Jeremy Stephens and Renato Moicano in three round fights. Aldo has recently said his time in mixed martial arts is coming to an end, and it’s believed he is aiming to retire by the end of this year.
