After years of being non-committal around the issue, Jon Jones appears to have made his first steps towards the UFC heavyweight division.
Jones has won his two comeback fights in the UFC’s 205-pound division, defeating both Alexander Gustafsson and Anthony Smith in recent months, though with that weight class appearing a little thin at its summit, many have openly questioned when the UFC”s most dominant champion in history will test the waters at the weight class above his.
It appears that we have our answer today. Speculation appeared in the media on Wednesd which stated the UFC was in an advanced stage of negotiations to make a July 6 bout between Jones and the most successful heavyweight champion in UFC history, Stipe Miocic.
And it appears as if Jon Jones is firmly on board.
I don’t think you guys are ready to witness @stipemiocic and I, would July give you all enough time?

This comes after Chael Sonnen revealed on his YouTube channel that he had been told by ESPN’s Ariel Helwani that there was concrete interest from all parties in making this fight.
“When Ariel says that he is ‘hearing talks’ – when Ariel says he is ‘hearing talks’, Ariel knows. Ariel is a journalist – he does not speculate, he says I’m hearing that both parties have agreed – or that both parties are interested rather,” Sonnen said via Pundit Arena.
“Now listen to this one. Listen to what Ariel said. Jon Jones, at heavyweight, versus – and I know you’re all going to think I’ll say Daniel Cormier or Brock Lesnar, I’m not, “Sonnen said.
“Jon Jones versus Stipe Miocic. Woah! That got my attention. Really?”
What’s more, a win against Miocic would pave the way for Jones to renew his rivalry with heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier but this time at heavyweight — prospect which will set many an MMA fan’s pulse racing.
