While Tyron Woodley continues to rehab from shoulder surgery undertaken in December, the rest of the 170-pound title picture appears to be taking shape underneath him.

The winner of the Stephen Thompson vs. Darren Till match-up in Liverpool next month will likely add the winner’s name to an ever-shortening list of those hoping to put their name forward for a championship bout later this year. The first two fighters in line, however, look to be Rafael Dos Anjos and Colby Covington who cross swords in June with the winning receiving the division’s interim title and, injury permitting, a future date with a healthy Tyron Woodley.

Though if you ask Woodley, he says that Dos Anjos make a bad call in accepting the fight with Covington.

Dos Anjos, a former lightweight champion, has appeared in good form since making the step up to 170-pounds last year by winning successive bouts against Tarec Saffiedine, Neil Magny and Robbie Lawler — wins which Woodley suggested would have been enough to challenge directly for the title without having to pursue its interim variant.

“Bruh. Sad to see fighters being played,” Woodley remarked on Sunday. “I accepted to fight [dos Anjos] July made# be (sic) June if I was given more time to let them know if im good. He fighting Qweefington for no reason.”

Dos Anjos didn’t give very much away in his riposte.

Woodley has stated on several occasions that he has little interest in a bout with Covington, calling the outspoken American “embarrassing” and “a disgrace” in comments last year.
