Mike ‘Platinum’ Perry is a fighter who captured plenty of fight fans’ imagination in 2016.

Perry (9-1) burst on to the scene last year with knockout wins against Hyun Gu Lim and Danny Roberts in his first two UFC bouts and it was the Flint, Michigan, native’s ultra-aggressive style (coupled with some, shall we say, ‘charismatic’ performances in the weigh-ins for those fights) which ensured he had plenty of eyeballs on him for his biggest test to date against Alan Jouban last December, a fight which he lost.

Now though, Perry has an opportunity to get his momentum back on the rails and has been booked to face UFC veteran Jake Ellenberger (31-12) in a welterweight clash on the UFC Nashville card in April to be headlined by Artem Lobov and Cub Swanson.

After long being considered one of the top contenders in the welterweight division, Jake Ellenberger has fallen on hard times in the latter part of his UFC career. Ellenberger came up short in match-ups with the divisional elite like Robbie Lawler, Stephen Thompson and Rory MacDonald and has scored just two octagon wins (Matt Brown and Josh Koscheck) in the last four years.

In his most recent UFC outing, Ellenberger was TKO’d inside the first round against the surging Jorge Masvidal.

UFC Nashville takes place on April 22nd at the Bridgestone Arena. In addition to the headline bout between Lobov and Swanson, the card also features clashes between John Dodson and Eddie Wineland, as well as Al Iaquinta and Diego Sanchez.
