And what a two years it has been.

730 days ago, Conor McGregor faced Dennis Siver in his first ever UFC main event in Boston with a promise from UFC officials that if the Irishman was successful he would next square off with then 145-pound champion José Aldo, a very interested observer at ringside.

McGregor scythed through the challenge of Siver, TKOing the German inside the first two minutes of the second round and soon as referee Herb Dean called a halt to the bout, McGregor’s eyes darted around the perimeter of the cage until he found the unmistakable frame of Aldo.

One cage leap later, McGregor was in the champion’s face and the first salvo in what would eventually be a near year-long rivalry was set.

The rest, as they say, is fighting history.
