At UFC 218, Max Holloway will defend his UFC featherweight title for the first time.

But, instead of it being against the scheduled Frankie Edgar, Holloway will face the man he originally beat for the title itself — Jose Aldo. The Brazilian stepped up on short notice to face Holloway after news broke that Edgar had been injured in training and was unable to compete.

While it might take away some level of freshness to the contest, it does grant former champion Aldo an immediate rematch for the title he lost earlier this year. A man usually not known for his willingness to take short notice fights, Aldo has found himself a rare opportunity in the sport of mixed martial arts to gain redemption.
