Katie Taylor has continued her professional boxing career unblemished after defeating Monica Gentili in London, this evening.

Taylor won the six round affair via a stoppage in the fifth round, dropping Gentili who was unable to compete any longer. The contest was never in doubt.

Once again, it was the speed of the combinations that set Taylor apart from her opponent, with Gentili forced to withstand several punches before firing off a counter. Along with that, the left hook to the body, something that’s becoming a staple of Taylor’s offence, appeared to come too fast for Gentili to deal with.

“It was great to get the stoppage victory in the end,” said Taylor, post fight. “Boxing those type of opponents, you can definitely express yourself a bit more. I thought it was a good performance, I was probably smothering my work in the first two rounds but the body shots paid off in the end.

“I think this is the first time that I had a proper training camp and I definitely felt that in the ring, I felt stronger and sharper. … I think I’m ready to box for a world title.”

Could a world title be far away?
