It would be fairly understandable for any fighter to see Khabib Nurmagomedov’s performance at UFC 219 and make plans to change divisions. Bu now, however, we’re all aware that Conor McGregor isn’t just any fighter.

The UFC lightweight champion is believed to currently be in talks with the UFC about a title defense against number one contender Tony Ferguson. But when Nurmagomedov repeatedly took elite striker Edson Barboza down to the mat, and landed vicious ground and pound, talk began to switch to what a fight between McGregor and Nurmagomedov would look like.

Combine that with the duos strong following in their home countries, and a contest between the pair could well be up their with the biggest fights in UFC history. And it’s not just the fans who are interested. After McGregor responded to the suggestion he should fight Nurmagomedov next, it seems the two are both taking notice of the other.
