UFC heavyweight Ben Rothwell has been flagged by USADA for a potential violation with a banned substance.

He has been preliminarily suspended by the UFC, and will now be subject to investigation by the anti-doping agency. He was scheduled to face former heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum at UFC 211 on May 13.

It’s important to note that the jury remains out on the situation until USADA complete their investigation. In recent times, we have seen both Cris Cyborg and Gian Villante granted retroactive decisions in their favour after a failed test. It’s possible Rothwell’s situation shall end with the same outcome.

That being said, Rothwell has had a history with performance enhancing substances, and was suspended by the UFC for nine months after testing positive for elevated testosterone levels back in 2013.
